The weekend of January 19th 2008 EasyRider Bike Show
January 29th, 2008January 29 2008 Good morning, it is Friday, the day before the EasyRider Bike show here in Sacramento . We are getting ready to head out to set up at the Convention Center where the EasyRider Bike show is being held this weekend. CJ, Dirty Dave, Brother Tom and I were on hand to set up the Booth as we have every year. I am looking forward to seeing many of my Brothers from as far as Nevada and Southern California . We arrive at the Convention Center about 10am to see that things were in full swing, people setting up their booths and rolling in on their motorcycles for the show. It was fun seeing some of my friends that were entering their bikes for judging. So many different styles and colors, and many speakers, DVDs and add-ons that boggled the mind. It was shaping up for a great show. The Band was setting up, and all the people that put this show on every year, were showing up and we caught up on what they have been doing since the last time we saw most of them. When it was our turn to bring in our trailer with our supply’s for the booth that we would set up, our Raffle Bike (2008 883 Harley Sportster), we got to work putting up our Banner and tables and chairs. Once that was completed we rolled out the Sportster and were ready for Saturday and the Big Event of the riding season to start. As all of the vender’s were setting up, we walked around to see everything that was going to be available to the participants of this great event. I sat on some of the bikes that were for sale and man I wish I had some extra money. After touring all the venders. it was time to see my buddy Oil Can and go party at our Clubhouse. I had Brothers staying at my house for the weekend, so life was good. We stayed out late as always happens when the Brothers are in town, only to get up early to get ready for the doors to open at the show. Saturday morning came quick and it was a beautiful morning, the sun was coming up over the trees and only a few clouds in the distance. I was remembering last year same time it was raining. We got really wet but rode anyway as true bikers would. This year the Sun God was with us and with the sun many more people would show up for the event. There were only a few bikes as we pulled up out front in the special bike parking. By the time 11am was upon us the streets were full and bikes were parking anywhere they could squeeze in without being towed away. The guys, all in leather, and the women were looking hot. The time was here, and the people started filing into the Convention Center. I will post pictures of vender’s, bikes, babes, and friends that came by our booth to get a chance to win our raffle bike. We did very well for our first day with our Raffle bike. We had lots of support in donations for the tickets that we were offering to the public. The day went on and on and it seemed that I knew everybody in the place and the ones I didn’t, well I made it a mission to meet as many as I could. I am a very social kind of guy and with so many beautiful women I was in heaven, and everyone was friendly and having a great time. I am a member of the Viet Nam Vets M/C. The club has two types of membership reflected by dates of service, the Viet Nam Vets and the Legacy Vets. We are a Club that is dedicated to remembering the POW-MIA’s that are still not accounted for, and the many Veterans issues that effect our soldiers today, including homelessness, PTSD, and TBI. There are many things that we are involved with, but that would be completely another story. Back to EasyRider …with the money generated through contributions, for a chance to win the 2008 Sportster, we can make a difference in the lives of our fellow Veterans. It’s now about 8pm and Oil Can and I are thinking about hitting the town, getting something for dinner and going back for closing time on Saturday. We have plans to have a few drinks at the Hyatt across the street with some foxy ladies that are vender’s at the show; Danielle, the owner of StitchesforBitches.com and her friend Makhela; Sherry, the owner of Rudechix.com and many of the event people who put this show on. We had a good time talking about other shows and the strange things that happen behind the scenes of an event like this and these stories, to say the least, were very entertaining. Well, I had to get up early the next morning, as with everyone else, so we called it a night about 2am. Sunday morning I woke up to see the weather was changing to overcast with chance of rain. My Brothers and I made breakfast and had about six pots of coffee and then we were ready for the show. We pulled the bikes out and warmed them up and headed to the Convention Center Downtown for one more day of fun. It was much the same as the Saturday Show but I was able to visit with my new friends a lot more. After the judging of the motorcycles, one of my friends, Geno, came by the booth to tell me his Brother had won the best in show. I knew that he had a chance because his bike has lots of chrome and beautiful paint, and his other Brother won the spectator’s class. It was a good day for his family and their bike building talents. All in all, it was the start of a good riding season. As it got near 5pm Sunday, the closing of the event, most of the people had left, to go watch the NFL playoff game, so we started breaking down our booth, getting everything ready to put back into our trailer for the next event. My Brothers and I packed it up and said a our goodbyes. I went back into the show for a final visit with all my old and new friends, wishing them well, sharing hugs and kisses, I was ready to throw my leg over my bagger and head home. As you know things change and so does the weather. It started to rain and I had no rain gear, its all sitting nice and dry in my garage. So while I am thinking about the ride home a new friend of mine, Betty, who was parked next to me, told me that she was almost out of gas and asked where was the closest gas station was. I told her a mile away and that I would ride with her to make sure that she made it. All true Bikers would do the same, even if she wasn’t as cute as she is. So off in the rain we go and she makes it to the station with her bike sputtering a little, as she was on vapors. Fueled up we said our goodbyes and I gave her my card. All prepared Bikers should have a card to give a woman a chance to get in touch for riding and just biker fun. We went our separate ways at the split of I-5 and 80 west, she on her Sportster and me on my Bagger. I was wet from head to toe, dried off and thought about the weekend and all that had happened. My thought on this weekend was, I love being Batman and I sure love the people I call friends………Batman Viet Nam Vets M/C Sacramento California
